七夕用英文怎么說？

七夕節是每年農歷（the lunar calendar）七月初七這一天，是我國漢族的傳統節日。這個節日從漢朝(公元前206年-公元220年)開始慶祝。2015年5月20日，國務院正式將七夕節列入國家非物質文化遺產名錄。

七夕節，又稱七巧節、女兒節、乞巧節、七夕祭、巧夕等，是中國民間的傳統節日。七夕節由星宿崇拜衍化而來，為傳統意義上的七姐誕，因拜祭“七姐”活動在七月七晩上舉行，故名“七夕”。在當代更是產生了“中國情人節”的文化含義。

然而，七夕作為當今中國最火熱的傳統節日之一，它的官方英文名卻爭論重重，有人說它應該叫"The Begging Festival"或者"The Qiqiao Festival"，因為這是中國民眾穿針引線比手巧的盛會，也有人說七夕應譯作"Chinese Valentine’s Day"，突出其作為情人節的當代價值。

這些譯名都說的有道理，但它們都僅是別稱，只有"The Qi Xi Festival" 才是國際上定義的七夕節英文名。

1. The Begging Festival：乞巧節

“乞巧”的這個“乞”，我們可以說beg，也可以用plead這個詞。

2. doing needlework：針線活

七夕有乞巧的風俗，乞巧是女孩子為了精進自己的女紅手藝，女紅(注：這里的“紅”讀音是“工”，不要讀錯了)，也就是針線活，用英語說就是doing needlework。

3. lunar calendar：陰歷

現在通行的陽歷是solar calendar。lunar表示“月亮的”，英文名Luna其實是月亮女神的名字，有取這個名字的女生是不是覺得很開心呢?

4. cowherd：放牛人（即牛郎）

同樣的一個詞是shepherd，羊倌，兩個詞都有一個-herd后綴，herd有“放牧人”的意思，不過通常都是作為后綴來構成“XX牧人”的詞。

七夕之夜，未婚女子通常會向織女星乞巧，也會乞求姻緣。
